  1. These statements in the new write-up for SRAs seem to be at odds with each other: “They can serve as a minor member on a graduate student’s special committee” and “[SRAs] can serve on special committees (including as chairs) for PhD students and Masters students.” However, the chair of the special committee should be in student’s major subject, according to p. 25 of the Code of Legislation for the Graduate School.

Otherwise, I think the new write-up provides many good clarifications and updates.

  2. In the proposed version, I see conflicting information between the “Senior Research Associate Responsibilities” and “Rights, Restrictions, and Opportunities” sections regarding serving on graduate student committees. The former section says SRAs can serve only as minor members on those committees, whereas in the latter section, SRAs “can serve on special committees (including as chairs) for PhD students and Masters students. Details.” I recommend clarification here. Note I did not follow the link to “Details”.

Overall, I appreciate the improvements in the proposed version relative to the current one.

    Thank you!

  4. I think that the proposed changes to the senior research associate job description are a step in the right direction, particularly the ability to serve on thesis committees. I am a co-investigator on several grants and the fact that I can only be an ad hoc member of thesis committees had caused problems with one of the grants.
