Resolution 162: Regarding Research Integrity Policy revision

Passed: April 7, 2021
Posted: February 10, 2021
Sponsors: University Faculty Committee

Final Research Integrity Policy available through the Cornell University Policy Library.

Background:

Here is a quick overview of a draft proposed revision  of our current academic misconduct policy (Policy 1.2). There is also this Feb 10 Senate Presentation.

The draft proposed revision reworks the underlying procedures so that they are easier to understand and comply with federal regulations.

Central to the discussion is the distinction between “academic misconduct” and the narrower concept of  “research misconduct”. Here [https://theuniversityfaculty.cornell.edu/faculty-senate/archives-and-actions/current2-draft/resolution-on-research-integrity-policy/background/]is a discussion of the “two misconducts” and how our peers choose to handle the distinction.

Based on these comments on the draft proposed revision and other input, the proposed revision was updated to produce the final draft. This “track changes” version [NOT THE FINAL VERSION] shows the edits of the Feb 10 revision that render the final draft.

The Resolution

Whereas the current Policy 1.2 (Academic Misconduct) is in serious need of revision;

Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate supports the  replacement of Policy 1.2  with this final draft of the revision described above.
