Knight Writing Program Expertise

The Program Website

There is much to learn from the Knight Writing Program insofar as it delivers what is essentially a university-wide requirement for all undergraduate students: the First-Year Writing Seminars. This is a massive undertaking that involves faculty commitment, graduate student TA-ships, and a range of critical interactions with departments. The delivery of an antiracism educational requirement for all students will probably require similar infrastructure and pedagogical insight in these directions:

Training

There is a Training Seminar with this syllabus.

Instructor Support

The Indispensable Reference for Teachers of First-Year Writing Seminars provides guidelines, policies and procedures, contact information, etc. It includes a section on supervision and mentoring,.

Grading

Grading contracts are often considered a key feature of anti-racist pedagogy. The Writing Workshop has successfully made use of this idea.
