Resolution 147: S20 Commitment to Academic Integrity and Equitable Instruction

Posted: March 29, 2020
Sponsor: University Faculty Committee

The Resolution

Whereas the covid-19 pandemic has prompted a rapid transition to online instruction;

Whereas said transition requires a renewed commitment to academic integrity;

Whereas said transition requires a renewed commitment to equitable instruction;

Be it resolved that the Faculty Senate endorses the document An S20 Commitment to Academic Integrity, Equitable Instruction, Trust, and Respect and encourages all instructors to discuss its contents with their students.

Background
The recommitment is a one-page reminder to faculty and students (written and edited by faculty and students) about certain existing policies both formal and informal. At one level the document offers absolutely nothing new about intellectual property, free speech in the classroom, academic integrity, or the importance of accommodating students who are having to confront illness and tragedy. On the other hand, it important for faculty and students to revisit these topics taking into full consideration the pandemic and the hasty switch to online instruction.
