After the “Stage 1” process plays out we will engage the campus on these issues:
- Some of the behaviors most problematic in online instruction are included under the sectionClassroom Misconduct and Other Behavior Disruptive to the Educational Process (e.g., using a professor’s intellectual property, using unauthorized materials during an exam, using unauthorized electronic technology during an exam, and engaging disruptive behavior in the classroom). Classroom Misconduct is not an academic integrity violation; instructors are solely permitted to issue a grade penalty. We will consider whether any/all of these behaviors should be covered by the Code proper.
- The Code currently prohibits a student from “misrepresenting one’s academic accomplishment.” We might want to elaborate/provide some examples to make clear that this includes misrepresenting academic credentials (e.g., on resumes) and altering academic records.
- Modify the Code so that it covers contemporary methods of cheating. This might entail an update of the section Principles of Computer Use and Network Systems.
- Review the “Records of Action” section to ensure a sufficient and consistent process of record sharing consistent with FERPA (allowing disclosure of educational records to school officials who have legitimate educational interests in the information).
