Appointment Rules

Clinical Professor Up to 5 years and renewable repeatedly.
Professor of the Practice  “Long term”
Research Professor  Terms of positions bearing these titles shall normally be up to five years. Unless otherwise specified, they shall be renewable indefinitely
Senior Extension Associate Up  to 5 years and renewable.
Extension Associate Up to 3 years  and renewable.
Senior Research Associate Up to 5 years and renewable.
Research Associate Up to 3 years and renewable
Research Scientist

Senior Scientist

Up to 5 years and renewable. Reappointments require approval by the provost, upon recommendation by the department chair and the dean.
Senior Lecturer Up to 5 years and renewable.
Lecturer Up to 3 years and renewable.
Librarian
Archivist
Teaching Associate Appointments as teaching associate can be for up to one year and are renewable. This title is not in the promotional sequence for lecturer/senior lecturer.
Instructor Instructors may be appointed for a term not to exceed two years for a maximum period of service of five academic years.
Post-Docs Postdoctoral appointments are made for terms of up to one year and may be renewed annually, normally not renewable beyond five years.
Visiting Fellow Appointments of visiting fellows may be for as little as several weeks or up to one year; these appointments are renewable, but the total time spent as visiting fellow cannot exceed three years, irrespective of departmental affiliations.
Visiting Critic For as little as several weeks or up to one year, renewable up to a total of three years, irrespective of departmental affiliation
Visiting Scholar/Scientist For as little as several weeks or up to one year, renewable up to a total of three years, irrespective of departmental affiliation.
Adjunct Adjunct professors or adjunct associate professors may be appointed for renewable terms of not to exceed five years each. Adjunct assistant professors may be appointed for renewable terms of not to exceed three years each.”
