As a follow-up to the 2016 Academic Work Life Survey (AWLS), the Office of Institutional Research and Planning (IRP) has created a dashboard that can be used to sort responses to questions about
- Overall job satisfaction
- Climate within the home department
- Decision-making at both the department/college level and the central administration level
- Issues that would factor into a decision to leave the university
By using the dashboard you can examine the responses from the standpoint of (a) gender, (b) rank, (c) college, (d) disciplinary group, or (e) race, ethnicity, and citizenship.
For access to the dashboard, click here.
There are two facts to keep in mind when using the dashboard.
The AWLS was open to tenured and tenure track faculty, academic professionals (lecturers, research, ers, extension, etc), and short term academic professionals (post-docs, visiting faculty, etc).
The survey-takers uploaded their responses between October 6, 2016 and November 7, 2016.
Results of the 2016 AWLS are posted on the IRP website with supporting documentation including this overview of the responses, this analysis of the job satisfaction responses, and this analysis of the response rate.
The most important ramification of the AWLS is how we can address the issues and probems that it identifies. If you would like to contribute to the campus discussion in this direction, then please leave a comment below.
