How to Submit a Statement for Posting

back arrow Back to Forums Main

1. Send your proposed posting to the Dean of the Faculty by email (click "Submissions" below to get an addressed, blank page.) It is useful to send a copy as an attachment and also to include a copy in the body of the email message.

2. On receipt of your proposed posting, the Dean of the Faculty will verify that you are the source of the posting via return email. The following statement will be included in his message along with any editing suggestions or revision recommendations:

You will be identified as the author of your posting to the Faculty Online Forum. Authors are legally responsible for the content of their posting. Copyright materials may not be used without permission.

Online Forum is available via the Internet to Cornell faculty, staff and current students; because readers can easily copy or redirect online materials, wider distribution of your comments is possible. You may wish to review your posting with this in mind.

Personal criticisms of individuals are discouraged and will be posted only if reasonably necessary to the development of an issue; we expect civility and collegiality in all postings. Personal grievances for which there are existing University resolution procedures will not be posted (e.g., tenure decisions, academic misconduct, sexual harassment)."

Upon receipt of your response to the Dean's email and if there are no revisions in contention, your statement will be added to the Online Forum page that day or the next working day.

3. If the Dean determines your proposed posting is inappropriate based on the guidelines established by the Online Forum Advisory Board (see Policy Statement above), he may deny your request to post or make posting contingent on recommended changes. If you are denied access to Faculty Online Forum or disagree with recommended changes, you may appeal the Dean's decision to the Online Forum Advisory Board. The chairperson of the Board will select two members as a review subcommittee or may ask the entire Board review your appeal. The Board will attempt to review the appeal within two days so there is minimal delay.
