Resolution 138 – Proposal for Handling Student Accommodations and Reaffirming Their Importance

The Resolution

Whereas the respectful handling of student accommodations is essential to the idea of an inclusive campus;

Whereas such handling typically requires knowledge of procedures, relevant legislation, and expectations;

Whereas such handling typically requires a combination of flexibility and timely notification;

Be it resolved that this student accommodation policy formally become part of the Faculty Handbook

Background

Currently the Faculty Handbook has a section on religious observance accommodations and a section on class schedules and absences that discusses accommodations associated with varsity athletics, job interviews, family emergencies, medical emergencies, and extracurricular activities. The purpose of this legislation is to allow the replacement of updated parts of the current section of the Faculty Handbook that address student accommodations.  It is a unified treatment that addresses a broader range of student accommodations.
