GPSA Resolution 14: Consensual Relationships Policy Revisited
The existing policy is very simple and makes sense to me; I don’t think it needs to be changed. It is easy for a person in a position of power to understand when a sexual relationship presents a conflict of interest. In any other circumstance – where a conflict of interest is not present – I see no reason why two adults cannot make their own choices without being judged or regulated by complicated rules. The current policy also encourages those who are in these types of sexual relationships to be transparent. I think that making the policy more complicated, or forbidding certain relationships, will just lead to guilt, anxiety and secrecy rather than preventing these types of relationships from existing.
